Оскар Вајлд на Дивљем западу: карикатура, феминизираност и келтски примитивизам

Овај рад враћа се у 1882. годину како би размотрио америчку предавачку турнеју Оскара Вајлда у контексту савременог опажања феминизираности и англосаксонског погледа на келтску другост. Узимајући у обзир специфичне културне околности Сједињених Држава, англо-америчких и англо-ирских односа, рад се фокусира на тадашње карикатуре Оскара Вајлда као одраз родних и расних предрасуда које је побуђивала његова феминизирана и културно дивергентна појава. Као сценографска позадина Вајлдових предавања помаља се британска перцепција Сједињених Држава као егзотичног културног поднебља чији примитивизам буди романтичну фасцинацију Енглеза, али чији привредни замајац и растући политички утицај уливају зебњу у перспективу империјалног поретка и статус Британије као глобалног лидера. Вајлд није у Њујорк стигао као Ирац, већ као културни изасланик Енглеске. Уживљавајући се у улогу естетског просветитеља који материјалистички настројеном америчком друштву обзнањује модерне тенденције у енглеској уметности, Вајлд је својим наступима имплицитно потврђивао културни примат матице. Феминизираност ексцентричног предавача делом је била прихваћена као уметничка поза и манифестација европејске софистицираности, али уједно је била тумачена и као симптом дегенерације која подрива његову мужевност, па и као обележје келтске назадности која онемогућава интеграцију са англосаксонском расом.
