Канонски лепо - eстетски критеријуми и генеза расизма

У успостављању идеје о раси, која није била узрок већ израз расизма, естетски критеријуми имали су веома важно место. Ово, наизглед произвољно, мерило изабрано је врло свесно, а у сврху потврђивања надмоћности европске, беле, расе. Током 18. и 19. века потребни естетски узори пронађени су у ризницама класичне Грчке. Древна Хелада – онако како је била устројена кроз дело Ј. Ј. Винкелмана и његових следбеника – била је стециште сваке врлине, неупитне мудрости и неполазне лепоте. Затим су кроз, научан и привидно неутралан, процес мерења соматске одлике повезане са интелектуалним и духовним вредностима. Теорија еволуције као и бројне реакције на њу омогућила је да, и поред вере у заједничко порекло човечанства, разлике међу „расама“ буду приказане готово непремостивим. На крају, као резултат читавог процеса културне разлике постале су биолошке, а доминација западних друштава добила је научну потврду и оправдање.
