Le chant dans le culte de Paul des possédés par l’esprit de Jésus

Résumé

Dans cet article les auteurs traitent le culte de Paul des possédés par l’esprit du défunt mage Jésus, ainsi que la place et l’importance du chant dans deux principaux rituels de ce culte : le repas rituel et l’invocation rituelle de l’esprit de Jésus. La conclusion de l’analyse est que les deux rituels avaient la même structure bipartite. Le repas rituel était composé du dîner amoureux (agape), où les représentants du culte devaient chanter ensemble des chants appropriés, et l’eucharistie, où chaque membre devait seulement “chanter dans son coeur”. D’autre part, l’invocation rituelle de l’esprit de Jésus était divisée en l’office et en la séance au cours de laquelle on communiquait avec Jésus. Dans la première partie toute la communauté récitait des psaumes, des hymnes et des chants spirituels, alors que dans la seconde, un médium choisi communiquait les messages de Jésus dans un „ râle indescriptible“.
