Tri godine pre svoje smrti 13. jula 2013, Džordž Vilijam Stoking, „najveći istoričar antropologije“ prema opštem mišljenju u disciplini, napisao je autobiografiju i memoare pod naslovom Glimpses into My Own Black Box: An Excercise in Self-Deconstruction (2010). Knjiga je objavljena u okviru čuvene edicije History of Anthropology (HOA), koju je Stoking pokrenuo kod izdavačke kuće Viskonsin Univerziteta u Medisonu (1983) i dve decenije uređivao. Cilj ovog rada je da kroz analizu sadržaja dela-teksta prikaže tekstualnu strategiju, postupak samoistorizacije i samokritike autobiografa i antropološkog autora u kontekstu pisanja istorije discipline i svedočenja o intelektualnom habitusu, ambijentima u kojima se formirao, živeo i radio, kao i ideološkim i intelektualnim promenama u američkoj akademskoj zajednici od sredine XX do početka XXI veka.
