L’utilisation politique de prophéties en Indonésie

Dans ce texte est analysée à travers différentes périodes historiques de l’Indonésie l’instrumentalisation politique de trois récits prophétiques basés sur des prédictions du roi médiéval javanais Jayabaya et la manière dont les organisations millénaristes et les activistes politiques utilisaient les mythes du sauveur et de l’âge d’or en vue de la réalisation de leurs propres buts. La forme des récits prophétiques s’est avérée exceptionnellement productive dans le processus de canalisation du mécontentement et la mobilisation pour l’activisme politique ; leur interprétation n’offre pas uniquement une explication uniqument d’une situation politique et des événements historiques complexes, mais grâce aux comportements des individus influents nous obtenons également des informations sur de nombreux autres aspects de la culture locale, comme le processus de formation du syncrétisme religieux, la répartition des rapports de force dans la société ou mode de perception culturelle du temps. Le travail tentera de montrer que ces prophéties n’ont pas pour but la tentative de prédire les événements futurs, mais de servir principalement comme l’occasion d’assurer au présent la légitimité à l’individu dans sa lutte politique.
